All About the CSH

The Inspiration

In Rudolf Steiner’s perfect world, people live by contributing what they can and taking what they need without placing monetary value on individual talent and worth.  Everyone is able to thrive and there is no lack.  This in turn produces a healthy environment for people to reach their potential and reconnects us with the feeling of community and gratitude, which is infectious in all realms.  In inspiration of this model, we would like to invite you to partake in the concept of real economics! Here’s how it works; participating patients decide what they can afford per month (after an initial first appointment charge for new patients and their family members) and commit to pay that amount for 6 months minimum.  The support comes from everyone donating at the most they are comfortable with, for this is how the health care plan will be able to sustain itself.  For those who can afford to contribute more than the suggested rate, you will be glad to know you helping those who can’t pay as much. The plan covers all in-person doctor visits and phone consultations all patients (local or out-of-state).  As additional support for families, there is no monthly cost for children if at least one parent is on the plan.  Established patients can jump in with monthly payments at anytime.  If you are not interested in the Community Supported Health Care Plan, the standing rates for appointments are still available.

Community Supported Health Care Plan Rates:

New patient first appointment fixed rate: $200 per adult $150 per child (each family member pays this for the initial visit)

Monthly suggested rate*: $50 per adult (or $25-$100 depending on income) $0 per child (if parent is on plan)

Established patients: you pay your decided amount as your next appointment charge to initiate the plan, then the same rate starting the 1st to begin monthly.

* The CSH is like an insurance plan.  Though it can be more economical, to keep with the spirit of the intention, please consider it as “a valuable community effort” rather than “ the cheaper way to go”, when deciding  your monthly contribution. If you can afford more per month, we encourage you to do so.  If you can’t meet the suggested rate, please pay less within the sliding scale range.

Yes, you can also adjust your monthly rate as needed if you fall on hard times or have more to contribute.

Insurance forms can be provided, but only after an appointment for the amount paid that month.

Regular Rates:

Initial doctor appointment: $275-$300

Follow-up doctor appointments:  $30-$150  depending on time and complexity

How do I decide if the CSH is best for me?

People with chronic or serious illnesses, long-standing patients, those who want Dr. Cowan as their primary physician, and families benefit most from this plan.  Like insurance, with the plan you may not need to come in sometimes, or a lot other times.  This plan assures you that you will get the care you need when you need it.  If you do not intend to continue for a length of time or if your insurance provides you with good coverage, then it’s more efficient to pay-as-you-go.

When do I need to have a decision made?

The sooner the better, but if you need to wait until after your initial appointment to decide to sign up or not, that’s ok, however we need to know immediately afterward– before we run your card– what you want to do.  In order to offer the CSH rates, we need to keep it easy to manage, therefore, we do not do any retroactive billing. Once we charge you for the regular rate, we cannot do refunds on the initial visit difference, although we can still sign you up with a monthly rate at anytime you like. If you are going for  the plan, please make sure you understand all the CSH terms before signing the form.
