FAQ

Who are your patients?

I treat people of all ages with all different health challenges, including but not limited to diabetes, cancer, colitis, allergies, children’s illnesses, digestive disorders, ear infections, heart disease, women’s and men’s diseases, and arthritis, among others. People often ask if I treat a particular disease or type of patient. In fact, I treat everyone, not because I treat all illnesses, but because I treat all people.

What is your treatment philosophy?

In my practice, I place significant emphasis on the importance of good nutrition. I prefer to stress a few principles of good nutrition, many of which are based on the ideas in Nourishing Traditions by Sally Fallon. I believe it is important to eat from the three basic food groups (whole grains, vegetables and animal foods), and to eat organic and biodynamic foods. I recommend limiting vitamin and mineral supplements. In fact, I often ask patients to stop taking all supplements and replace them as needed with only those of the highest quality.

Generally, after I see a patient, listen to his or her story, and do whatever exams and tests are necessary, I then prescribe a course of treatment. It is important to know that I am not so much trying to fix what is wrong, but rather to strengthen patients so that out of their own forces they can begin to overcome whatever medical problems they came to see me about. I strive to do this without resorting to synthetic medicines if at all possible. Treatments can last two to 12 months, depending on the condition and the patient’s response to treatment. Patients should expect to see some improvement in their condition within six weeks.

Do you treat cancer?

I do. I often treat cancer with Iscador, an alternative and nontoxic therapy now widely used in Europe. Iscador is a medicine made from the lacto-fermented extract of fresh sap of the plant known as mistletoe (viscum album). (see the Iscador page for more info). I also sometimes use digitalis, turmeric, and a variety of natural and herbal medicines in a comprehensive cancer program. At the same time, I work with cancer patients on a specific nutrition plan to help enhance the healing process.

Do you take insurance?

I accept only Medicare. Otherwise my patients pay me directly. However I do provide appropriate receipts for submission to your insurance company. For more answers to insurance questions and to view our Community Supported Health Care Plan, please go to the Office FAQs page.

Are you on call or readily available for patients?

As your physician, I am always available to consult with you, either by phone, email or in person. I see patients by appointment, and make home visits in special circumstances. Please feel free to call or e-mail me with any questions about treatment, fees and to discuss your particular situation.

Do you give workshops or lectures?

I frequently give workshops and lectures in the Bay area as well as across the U.S. and Canada. I welcome patients, practitioners and those interested in holistic treatment to attend. Sally Fallon, Jaimen McMillan and I frequently host Fourfold Healing conferences across the country. Our next conference is in Durham, NC in February 2008. I also lecture each year at the Wise Traditions conference in the DC area.

You can find a schedule of appearances and events on this website. If you would like to have me speak to your organization, please contact me by phone or email.

What is the Fourfold Healing Clinic?

In the spring of 2007 I founded the Fourfold Healing Clinic at my offices on Chenery Street in San Francisco with the intent of bringing the concepts and principles from the book, The Fourfold Path to Healing, into clinical practice.

A select group of practitioners — a Spacial Dynamics® certified movement-for-healing practitioner, acupuncturists, a remedial teacher, and Nourishing Traditions quality food providers — provide access to a variety of services and therapies, share insights with each other from their varied perspectives, and contain costs to keep fees down.

Do you have an online support group for patients?

Yes. Please join our new Fourfold Patient Forum Yahoo group. This is a place to meet other patients with similar issues and treatments, to ask questions of each other, and get support. Practitioners from the Fourfold Clinic may provide input.
